I am a Canadian graduate student currently studying at Stanford and am helping to lead an initiative designed to engage students, researchers and postdocs in life science entrepreneurship. OneStart, now in its third year, is a business plan competition and accelerator program for burgeoning bio-entrepreneurs (and non-research students interested in entrepreneurship). The grand prize is a $150K grant (no-strings-attached), one year of free lab space and ongoing legal and business advice from our sponsors. Last year we had over 250 applications from across North America including over 75 from Canadian universities.
I think many students at UBC would be interested in this opportunity and I would love to see increased participation from Canadian schools.
